Lisicki Becomes Runner-up in Wimbledon

Datum
08 July 2013

It was a great day for Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) that she stood on the final stage at Wimbledon for the first time on Saturday, July 6th. Defeating No. 4 seed Agnieszka Radwanska after a tough marathon match with a 6-4, 2-6, 9-7 score line, Sabine became Germany’s first Grand Slam finalist since Steffi Graf in 1999.

Sabine had great two weeks and won big victories against the 2012 Wimbledon finalists Serena Williams and Agnieszka Radwanska to reach the final. She impressed us with her aggressive performance throughout this tournament, although she lost in the final.

She expressed her delight on her Twitter page, “It was such an amazing time and journey. The experience will help me in the future. I will be back and can’t wait to see my fans again. Thank you so much for your support throughout the entire two weeks!”

In the junior events, EZONE players Belinda Bencic (EZONE Xi, PTGH125) and Nick Kyrgios (EZONE Xi 98) also made great achievements to claim the titles.

No.1 seed Belinda advanced to the girl’s singes final and faced No. 5 seed Taylor Townsend of United States. She showed spirited performance against the opponent’s attacks including 49 winners. Making amazing 21 break chances, Belinda scored the comeback victory with 5 breaks by 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. Following Roland Garros 2013, she captured her second junior Grand Slam title in Wimbledon.

Australian promising player Nick competed the boy’s doubles event with the fellow Thanasi Kokkinakis. They also progressed to the final and won an overwhelming victory against Enzo Couacaud and Stefano Napolitano in just 1 hour. It was Nick’s third junior doubles Grand Slam title, and he also won Roland Garros and Wimbledon with Andrew Harris last year.
