Lisicki Defeats World No. 1 Williams in 4th Round

Datum
03 July 2013

It was a great day for Sabine Lisicki (VCORE Tour 97, PTGSPN) that she achieved a big victory against the world No. 1 Serena Williams in the fourth round of Wimbledon on the seventh day, July 1st.

Sabine fought the hot match in the best condition and had a great strength enough to overcome the five-time Wimbledon champion. Serena made 16 break chances throughout the match but Sabine played very persistently to keep her service games. Meanwhile Sabine earned 35 winners and 10 service aces against such a strong rival to capture the ticket for the quarterfinals with 5 breaks by 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

Sabine shared the big win on her Facebook page, “It was a fantastic match against a great champion. To be able to come out on top of that is great! Thank you so much for your support everyone!”

It’s the fourth achievement for Sabine to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, and she became the semifinalist in 2011. Also, Sabine has won great victories against the past three reigning Roland Garros champions at Wimbledon. She defeated Svetlana Kuznetsova in the third round in 2009, Li Na in the second round in 2011, and Maria Sharapova in the fourth round in 2012.

Aiming for further progress at her favorite tournament, No. 23 seed German faces Kaia Kanepi of Estonia today. Please keep up your support for Sabine in Wimbledon!
